Inci: Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil and Undaria Pinnatifida Extract
Wakame (Undaria pinnatifida) is a type of edible seaweed traditionally used in Japanese cuisine and herbal medicine for centuries. Rich in minerals, antioxidants, and skin conditioning compounds, it has more recently found a place in skincare for its nourishing, protecting, and revitalising properties.
Our Wakame extract is sourced from high quality Japanese seaweed and extracted into skin friendly safflower oil, a lightweight, fast absorbing carrier oil known for its linoleic acid content and ability to support skin barrier health. This oil based format is ideal for balms, oils, oil to milk cleansers, and waterless formulations.
The History of Wakame in Skincare
In Japanese wellness traditions, wakame has long been prized for its ability to nourish and revitalise both body and skin. Historically applied as fresh poultices or used in skin soothing baths, it was believed to soften, moisturise, and purify the skin.
In modern cosmetics, wakame’s reputation has been firmly established as a rich source of vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds that help protect against environmental stressors, support collagen, and improve skin resilience. Its use in oil based extracts offers a modern twist on an ancient ingredient, bringing its benefits to waterless and barrier supporting skincare formulations.
